Your Rumi du jour
Quatrain 82, from Open Secret: Versions of Rumi, translated by John Moyne and Coleman Barks:
Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don't open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

I woke this morning in Ghana dreaming that I had lost everything. I don't know what directed me to your blog this morning, but Rumi's words gave me sustenance when I thought there was none to be had.

Well, inspired by your blog, I took my flute down off the shelf when I entered my writing room today, prepared to let the beauty I love be what I do. Unfortunately I was so preoccupied with tuning the flute as I crossed the room toward the couch that I tripped on the cat's water dish, almost fell over with the flute in my hands, spilled water all over the floor and sent the cat scurrying out of the room. Sometimes my life is less poetic than I'd like it to be.
